The state of New Jersey offers just about every possible option for iGaming. It was one of the first states to boast online casinos and poker rooms, is a friendly environment for daily fantasy sports, and as of last year's Supreme Court arguments in Murphy vs. NCAA stands at the forefront of the battle for true internet sports betting.

However, despite considering legislation in recent years, the Garden State appears to have no current prospects to put its successful state lottery online.

Poipet, Cambodia's Number Two Casino Destination, Gears Up To Go Global by Muhammad Cohen

Poipet, a Cambodian boomtown on the Thai border, is 400 kilometers and light years away from world-class NagaWorld in Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh. However, Poipet has the closest legal casinos to Bangkok at 250 kilometers, a three to four-hour drive on excellent roads. That proximity gives this former refugee center and last redoubt of the Khmer Rouge Cambodia's second-highest casino revenue, even though a baccarat hand requiring a $100 wager at NagaWorld can be played in Poipet for under $1.

Party Poker, at least the US-facing branch of the company, has been a bit of an enigma since launching in New Jersey in late 2013. The company was bullish on New Jersey and the US in general at the time and was among the biggest spenders in the early land grab. They've drastically reduced spending there in recent years, however, and have become one of the state's poorest performing operators.

Pennsylvania has now legalized online gambling, and the possibility is real for online poker sites to span multiple states. GVC Holdings, the parent company of Party Poker since 2015, appears to be once again reevaluating their potential in the United States.

Just How Pot-Friendly Will Atlantic City (And The Casinos) Be If NJ Legalizes Marijuana? from

NJ Gambling Sites

"Going green" could be taking on a new meaning in two casino towns, both of which are of great interest for Frank Gilliam: Atlantic City and Las Vegas.

Gilliam, Atlantic City's mayor, has been one of the strongest proponents of legalizing marijuana in New Jersey. He has said doing so would boost local economies and increase tourism, especially along the Boardwalk.

Last week, the New Jersey Assembly held its first hearing to determine if marijuana should be legalized in the state, according to WHYY.

Just do not expect to be hitting your vape while hitting blackjack in casinos anytime soon.

Malaysia's Richest 2018: How 'Accidental' Casino Billionaire Chen Lip Keong's Cambodia Bet Paid Off by Muhammad Cohen

When Chen Lip Keong won Cambodia's first casino license in 1994, he had hardly ever stepped inside a casino. He'd been to Malaysia's Genting Highlands once on a date in the 1970s and visited Las Vegas once as a tourist. Casinos are "not in my blood; I'm not a gambler," he says. Yet today, renowned casino architect Paul Steelman calls Chen "one of the most powerful creators of these properties in the world."

This self-proclaimed "accidental" gambling billionaire is the chief executive and majority shareholder of NagaCorp. Its NagaWorld casino-resort complex in the capital Phnom Penh boasts 1,700 guest rooms, 600 gaming tables and more than 5,000 gaming machines. Despite his gambling aversion, he bet $369 million of his own money to build Naga2, an opulent twin-tower extension opened in November that features nine floors of guest rooms for high rollers with adjoining private gaming rooms. And soon there'll be a 2,200-seat theater where Chen is aiming to host the likes of Lady Gaga, a favorite of his. The addition makes Cambodia and NagaWorld first-rank contenders in Asia's $51 billion casino market.

Pennsylvania's brick-and-mortar casinos raked in $189,056,195 in slot machine revenue in February, according to figures released by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. The tally is a welcome rebound from the industry's dismal January numbers, which were likely depressed by unseasonably cold temperatures and the appearance of a blizzard.

But while the $11.2 million month-on-month increase may seem a positive development, the total represents a disappointing 1.67% contraction compared with the same time period last year.

February's lack of growth is not an outlier, and is part of a several-month long trend of sliding slot revenue, a possible indicator that interest in PA's one-armed bandits may be waning.

Macau's Casinos Have Been Relying On VIPs, But The Mass Market Is Crucial To Future Growth by Muhammad Cohen

Everyone agrees Macau's future lies with the mass market, not VIPs. No one can agree on when that future will begin, though. Macau's recovery since August 2016 has been largely fueled by VIP play, and that trend accelerated in last year. Analysts diverge on whether the mass market future starts in 2018, and evidence so far remains decidedly mixed.

For casino operators, mass-market play is easy to love. It's more profitable, more stable and the customers pay for money-spinning non-gaming items, such as hotel rooms and meals, that VIPs expect for free. Mass play is far less complicated than the VIP segment that relies on high rollers from mainland China, largely sourced by junket promoters that take roughly half the profits in commissions. Junkets provide credit to customers to help them skirt China's currency restrictions. Travelers can legally cross the border with RMB 20,000 or the foreign currency equivalent of $5,000, barely enough for a handful of bets by the average high roller.

All eyes are on the Supreme Court right now, as basically everyone in the gambling industry, along with betting enthusiasts all around the country, wait to hear the outcome of Christie v. NCAA. The finding in this case, expected sometime this Spring, will determine if the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) - a 90's era law restricting sports betting to a small handful of US states - survives the year in its current form. It will also illuminate the path of sports betting in the US for years to come.

States have wasted no time getting out ahead of the news, with several already passing laws to legalize sports betting and numerous others introducing and debating bills. More than 20 different states have either passed or are considering passing some form of a bill to regulate betting.

Within those states, debate has begun to emerge over whether or not sports leagues will get a piece of the pie - and if so, how big and under what conditions?

Two Years Behind Schedule, MGM Finally Arrives In Cotai Amid Macau Boom by Muhammad Cohen

It's not often that you can be two years behind schedule and have good timing. Five years after breaking ground, and 10 years after opening its first property on the Macau peninsula, MGM has its foothold in Cotai, the outer islands landfill that's become Macau's center of gaming gravity. The $3.4 billion MGM Cotai opened Tuesday, just ahead of Chinese New Year and in the midst of very good times for Macau gaming. Revenue rose 19% last year and a whopping 36% in January from a year earlier.

However, MGM still has hard yards ahead in Cotai and the clock is ticking on its gaming concession, due to expire in 25 months.

What The PA Lottery Will Tell Us So Far About Its Online Games by Dustin Gouker

The Pennsylvania Lottery is just three months away from launching its first online games.

However, details of the launch - other than that it is planned for May - have been hard to come by. (Online casino and poker are also coming to PA, with a date later in 2018 likely for a rollout.)

Gov. Tom Wolf has said via his budget that he plans on online games creating more revenue for the state.
